The 50 Designs that changed the course of Bridal Fashion

Tuesday, March 18th, 2014

For brides-to-be or any reader with a fascination for couture, this is the essential guide to the best wedding dresses of modern times.

Some of the most inspiring wedding dresses of our time were created for fashion icons such as Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Catherine Middleton and Kate Moss.

This book takes a look at the bridal legends and designs that have transcended mere beauty to become flashpoints of fashion and style. With examples of both elegant and extravagant dresses by the most renowned courturiers of our time, The Wedding Dress explains how and why each achieved iconic status.

From the white wedding dress worn by Queen Victoria in 1840 to couture creations by Karl Lagerfeld, Alexander McQueen, Vera Wang, and Vivienne Westwood, The Wedding Dress examines the details of each and every design in chronological sequence. Photographs of the dresses and the brides that wore them are accompanied by illustrations offering a 360-degree view of the designs’ unique features.

This accessible and richly illustrated book is an indispensable resource for brides, designers, stylists, wedding planners and anyone interested in the extraordinary world of bridal couture.

The Cake Artist

Thursday, August 29th, 2013

After choosing a dress, the perfect wedding cake is the next most important purchase for a girl’s big day. With all eyes on the bride, the cake should be the only thing capable of stealing the limelight. So why not make it a show stopper for all the right reasons with a little help from The Cake Artist.

Sugar craft wizard and baker extraordinaire, Melanie Marley, MD of the Cake Artist, has been waving her magic wand, making couples’ dreams come true for over 20 years. Designs range from the traditional, to more boutique creations dripping in semi-precious stones, and cakes used as a centre piece to set off the most elaborate of themed weddings.

Everything is hand made to bespoke order and no two cakes are ever the same. Melanie works closely with couples from enquiry to delivery, to make their hopes and visions a sugar craft reality to be admired by all. “Some couples have a clear idea of exactly what they want but with others, it’s a case of working from a blank canvas. Every wedding cake is a collaboration of ideas that go to create a dream that is unique to the couple,” said Melanie.

The Cake Artist has come up with the Beau Cake – a stunning selection of pretty cupcakes in the shape of a floral bouquet. Each lemon sponge cupcake is freshly baked using the highest quality and organic ingredients, filled with St Clements curd and topped with buttercream frosting. And if you don’t like lemon sponge, there’s vanilla, chocolate or passion cake. This is the cupcake for a new generation.

But where do you begin in choosing a cake? Here are some tips to consider from The Cake Artist:

How many guests does the cake need to serve? Special dietary requirements?

Do you want to preserve your top tier for a future celebration such as a christening?

Do you want the cake served as a dessert?

Which flavours are your favourites - for cake and filling?

What is your colour theme, including flowers?

Is there an overall theme that can be reflected in the cake?

Which season is the wedding? Date of celebration?

Type of venue and location?

Budget?

Unusual Wedding Cake

Tuesday, August 6th, 2013

Sweet wedding cakes are not to everyone’s taste, so for something out of the ordinary couples may want to consider this fantastic alternative from Godminster.

We love a good party at Godminster, whether it’s a wedding, birthday, special anniversary or family reunion, it’s all about coming together and celebrating in style. Which is why we have created the new Godminster Celebration Cheese Cake, a glorious tower of mouth-watering delight, from our handmade brie and award-winning Vintage Organic Cheddar to goat’s cheese, with our famous heart-shaped Godminster Cheddar as its crowning glory. It serves from 100 - 120 people and is guaranteed to make you say “cheese” long after the photographer has gone home!

To create the perfect cake we’ve teamed up with some great cheese makers, and we think this is 10kg of pure deliciousness which includes Cornish Yarg, Colston Bassett , Godminster Organic Bries, White Nancy Goats Cheese, and a Godminster Vintage Organic Cheddar heart amongst other wonderful cheeses.

Godminster is well known for its delicious range of organic cheeses including a vintage organic waxed cheddar, oak-smoked vintage organic cheddar and a range of Jerseymilk bries. Godminster also makes refreshing infused vodkas, including horseradish, blackcurrant and elderflower. Chunky beetroot and apple chutney and two new varieties of crackers, rosemary water biscuits and an oat rich digestive complement the range

Godminster’s mantra is a simple one – nature repays those who treat her kindly – from the rolling fertile pasture and grazing herd of Friesian dairy cows to the organic soil and rambling orchards, Mother Nature is at the core of Godminster Farm. By looking after her, the unsurpassable organic raw ingredients are readily available to create a delicious range of high quality organic foods – all incredibly familiar, yet twisted tastefully into the unique.
