Wedding Transport with a Retro Touch

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012

Brides and Grooms have got to get to the wedding venue somehow so why not take the opportunity to have something special on your big day and look for an alternative to the classic wedding car. Grooms might like the idea of turning up to the church in an E Type Jaguar or other classic car while brides may be dreaming about the perfect horse drawn carriage.

Popular options for wedding transport are the classic VW camper van or the traditional red double decker bus, which can also accommodate the transport of the wedding guests to the reception. Ideal for couples who are having a vintage themed wedding these will add a fun element to the day and be a real talking point with guests.

Cocktail Masterclass for your Hen Party

Friday, May 11th, 2012

If you’ve been put in charge of planning an event or party and been asked to come up with something ‘different’, it can be difficult to know what to do. If you’ve yet to explore the option of booking a cocktail masterclass, now may be the perfect time. They involve a group or several groups being given a friendly and engaging demonstration by an experienced cocktail maker before being given the chance to attempt their own.

For anyone who loves drinking cosmopolitans, woo woos, long island iced teas and mudslides (to name but a few) then learning how to make your own could be a real treat. Furthermore, you’ll get to drink each beverage that you and your group concoct.

Full of banter, history about the drinks and, of course, sampling them, cocktail masterclasses have grown in popularity and are well-suited for a wide range of occasions – including hen dos, stag parties, birthday parties, Christmas parties and more.

They provide a great basis for the start of a night out and are often paired with a party booking for afterwards. This is where your group will get their own special area guaranteed for the evening, meaning you have somewhere to enjoy a sit down in between drinks.

So if you’re looking for an evening that’s a little different, but very memorable, choosing one with cocktails and VIP party areas could be the perfect solution.

Bespoke Wedding Favours from Snapdragon’s Garden

Monday, April 30th, 2012

Snapdragon’s Garden is a craft business specialising in textiles and homewares. Jane Lindsey, founder and chief embroiderer, launches a new wedding collection for Spring 2012 consisting of wedding gifts and favours. Snapdragon specialises in short-run bespoke work, they sketch with a sewing machine and use a mix of recycled, vintage and precious fabrics to create very personal and one-off embroideries.

All items can be matched to the chosen colour theme, co-ordinated with bridal wear, made using a bride’s own fabric or with fabrics that have a special meaning to the couple, taking creative inspiration from the 1930-50s, the plants, flowers and animals that surround the Stirlingshire studio and memories of a 1970s childhood. The range of items is suitable for keepsakes for groomsmen, bridesmaids or flower girls and a Ring Cushion can add that finishing touch to the ceremony and act as a lasting reminder that can be treasured for years to come. Snapdragon’s personalised 15cm soothing herb cushions are 100% wool, decorated with freehand machine embroidery and stuffed with high quality lavender. Finished with a bespoke message, these graceful cushions will look right at home once the big day has passed propped on beds or chairs.

The new wedding range represents the desire of the Snapdragon team to produce carefully made gifts tailored to the recipient that really say ‘thank you’ and will be cherished - not left behind at the end of the night.

Commenting on the new collection, Snapdragon’s founder and chief embroiderer, Jane Lindsey said: “Over the years many couples have approached us to make bespoke favours and presents for their wedding, but up to now we haven’t really advertised this as something we do. Everyone in the team loves working on bridal commissions so it seemed a good idea to let brides know that we do exist and how we can make beautiful items for their weddings that will be treasured.”

Jane started Snapdragon’s Garden in 2000 after she left her job as Curator of British art at the University of Glasgow and decided to change her life. She dreamed of moving to the country, growing cut flowers, and sewing things and did just that, buying a smallholding near to Drymen in the Loch Lomond National Park.

The business grew from a kitchen table start-up into a vintage airstream caravan and then into a purpose built workshop in a field behind the cutting garden. A team of five now serve over 300 stockists in the UK and Europe.

A Wedding Gift Honeymoon

Friday, March 23rd, 2012

It is less traditional for a UK couple to be given money for their wedding or in place of a wedding gift, although this is very popular in other areas of Europe. A new honeymoon gift service is set to encourage couples down the aisle towards wedded bliss as holiday company Dawson and Sanderson, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, launches a new service called www.giftmyhoneymoon.co.uk to help couples with the cost of their wedding and honeymoon.

The new savings fund enables family and friends to contribute towards a couple’s honeymoon, or their wedding abroad. The bride and groom-to-be can personalise their page on www.giftmyhoneymoon.co.uk with engagement or wedding photographs and upload a special message, and can even share it via Facebook and Twitter.

North East couple Leah Nesbitt and Leonard Rundle, who live inSouth Shields, are the first to try out the service.

Leah, who works as a dance instructor teaching Zumba and street dance for Sunderland Dance said: “These days most couples already live together so have things like towels, kettles and toasters for the house. What they really need is contributions towards the cost of the honeymoon as well as experiences whilst they’re there as it all mounts up. When the time’s right we’ll definitely look to set up a Giftmyhoneymoon account.”

Chris Pattison, managing director of Dawson and Sanderson said: “With the honeymoon being one of the most expensive holidays a couple will ever take, it seems reasonable to ask for a little help to meet the cost, instead of receiving items they don’t really need. Our new online service makes it a hassle-free process for guests to make a contribution towards this special occasion and also helps couples to easily track their growing pot of money. We’ll also give them £20 to get the account started as a special wedding gift.”

A Giftmyhoneymoon account can be set up for weddings, honeymoons and renewals. To find out more contact a Dawson and Sanderson branch, ring 0800 542 8310 or visit www.giftmyhoneymoon.co.uk

Brighton’s iconic hotel, The Grand, will go to any lengths to make your wedding day perfect. Located on the historicBrightonseafront, The Grand’s majestic Victorian architecture is set in a breathtaking location, looking out across the sparkling sea. The Grand’s dedicated Wedding Coordinator, Penny Mitchell, has over 4 years’ experience in providing the perfect day and strives to provide a personal service to every couple - down to the smallest detail.

So much so in fact, that when one Bride’s wedding carriage failed to turn up, General Manager Andrew Mosley kindly stepped in and drove her to the church himself! Another Bride said she would only marry her husband-to-be in a field of poppies. To recreate her dream romantic setting, the Empress Suite walls were decorated with poppies - through screen projected images of the flowers.

Wedding co-ordinator,Penny Mitchellexplains “Our whole aim at The Grand is to create the perfect wedding to suit our guests. We are happy to accommodate most requests and our events team are on hand for even the most unusual suggestions!”

When it comes to choosing your cuisine for the big day, the chefs at The Grand really excel. With the food in the restaurant being awarded a coveted AA rosette for its excellent quality and fresh produce, brides and bridegrooms can expect nothing but the best. Alan White, the Hotel’s Executive Chef is always available to discuss your menu preferences.

Penny added, “No matter how large or intimate the occasion, we will always do all we can to make every wedding unique to the couple - from the type of cocktail you want at the reception to a string quartet to serenade your guests - we are here to make dreams come true. Our function rooms can accommodate up to 500 guests, including the stunning Empress Suite, which looks out onto panoramic views of Brighton’s beautiful coastline.”

The Grand is also the perfect place to spend your wedding night with four spacious bridal suites to choose from - each with a balcony and a dazzling sea view. You can enjoy breakfast in bed with Champagne and strawberries or continue to indulge with free-rang eggs and smoked salmon. There is plenty of room for guests to stay too, as the hotel has over 200 individually designed en-suite rooms.
