The UK Wedding Shows like to consult the experts when giving advice for brides, grooms and the wedding party. Liberty-Belle Howard is a UK based fashion blogger currently working on behalf of Matches Fashion, who sell designer clothes and she gave us the heads up on new looks for the spring season.
“Dressing for a wedding can be quite intimidating - no one wants to outshine the bride on her big day, but any fashion-forward females are going to want to make sure they’re a cut above the rest of the guests in the style stakes. If you’ve never been to a wedding before, you might be completely clueless on what is and isn’t acceptable, but luckily we’ve put together a few outfit ideas to make sure you don’t commit any major fashion faux pas… the rest is up to you!
There’s never a better time to try out experiment with a bit of colour than at a wedding – and there’s no need to be afraid to clash colours since it’s a hot trend right now. Featuring all-over gather pleat detailing, this moss-green techno jersey dress by Lanvin is the perfect party piece. Add vibrant accessories and you’ll have a standout wedding ensemble.
We all know that weddings are romantic occasions, so why not dress the part in soft, neutral tones? This nude-pink Alba mini dress by Diane Von Furstenberg exudes romance and feminine refinement. Wear this elegant drape-detail style with pearl and gold jewellery and neutral pumps. Adding a stronger pink into the mix – such as this Nancy Gonzalez clutch – sets the outfit off perfectly and provides a bit of edge.
Use the wedding as an opportunity to show off your sartorial credentials by working this season’s hottest hue with this cobalt-blue Cady stretch dress by Antonio Beradi. With its figure hugging design, the lean-lined creation will ensure you cut a svelte figure at the ceremony and reception. Go without jewellery and elevate your fashion standing further by wearing these Christian Louboutin wedges. Finally, grab a red bag you’re ready to go!”

At the recent London ExCeL show The UK Wedding Shows were able to announce the winners in a fabulous competition to win a dream wedding. The competition was launched for the travel market in November 2011 and the island of Rhodes was decorated with several large billboards advertising the competition with extensive media coverage to attract entrants. All of the couples entering the competition were invited to attend the London ExCel show where the winner would be announced and have their prize confirmed. The couple who were selected had chosen to attend the show even though they had to travel some distance and they were surprised to hear their names being read out and be called up to the stage. Deborah, the bride to be, got in touch after the event to share the experience.
“We are now over the shock of winning and so excited about having our dream wedding this year. When I entered the competition I never for one moment thought that we would win. I was looking on a wedding site trying to find some ideas for wedding stationery when I saw the competition advertised. I entered our details and never expected to hear anything back, especially when I saw how many other people had already entered.
On Wednesday evening I got a phone call advising that we were one of fifteen finalists who were invited toLondonfor the show and I could not believe it. It would mean a very early start on the Saturday coming fromManchesterbut we thought if we didn’t come down we would be forever thinking what if. So the train tickets were booked and at 5am on Saturday morning we set off down to London.
Having never been to a wedding show we did not know what to expect when we arrived. We were a little early so we had time to go around all the exhibition stands. As the draw got closer and we were ushered to our seats it was only then that it hit me that we could actually win the wedding. At no other point did I think we stood a chance of winning. Two minutes later the draw was being made and our names were being read out. I was so shocked that I just sat staring at the announcer and Lee turned to me and said “we’ve won” in disbelief.
It was only towards the end of the day when the shock gave way to excitement that it sank in that we would be married in 16 weeks. As we got on the train home and went through all the leaflets and brochures we had been given by the sponsors showing what we had won we felt amazing. We love theislandofRhodosand to know that we will be getting married there, in the warm sunshine, with the beautiful backdrop of St Pauls Bay, is such a wonderful feeling. Both Lee and I can’t wait to go through all the details and see the wedding come to life. “

The long-held tradition that women can propose to their boyfriends on a Leap Year dates back to the fifth century - and research released today shows that one in three women would consider following this custom and ask their boyfriend to marry them on 29 February, putting celebrity Lisa Maxwell in good company after popping the question this year.
Commissioned by Sandals Resorts, the Luxury Included® Caribbean hotel company, the survey showed that the 20% of women who say they are scared of being rejected need not fear as, instead of running for the hills after a proposal from their loved one, 40% of men would be more than happy to accept and two thirds would not find it embarrassing to have the tables turned in this way. Reassuringly only 5% of men would say no to a proposal because their girlfriend is not ‘The One’.
Women from the East Midlands are the most likely to propose and ladies living in Wales are the least inclined to pop the question. Men from the North East are the country’s most receptive, with almost half saying they would like their lady to do the asking. Men in the South West are the least likely to acquiesce, with 31% saying they would not like to be propositioned. Men from Northern Ireland and Greater London were the most likely to be left red faced by a Leap Year proposal, with a fifth of respondents from each region saying that they would find the gesture embarrassing.
Professor of Psychology and Relationship Expert, Geoffrey Beattie said: “This new research by Sandals Resorts shows that the Leap Year tradition of women taking the initiative in proposals of marriage is now chiming with the underlying attitudes of people in the U.K. today. More and more women (and men) seem happy with the idea that it is perfectly acceptable for women to pop the question. This seems to reflect a more egalitarian society in terms of relationships and dating, with women no longer prepared to play second fiddle, and taking the initiative whenever it is necessary. Given that marriage is a key milestone in many people’s lives it is refreshing to see that things are changing. ”

Only three months now till the wedding, almost everyone has sent RSVP’S back which is great so the Table Plan will be next, sorting out who will sit where with who! It’s also time to sort out the food and drink menu with the venue and ideas for the table favours. Mini chocolates, cupcakes or ginger snaps, balloons or fish bowls, all these decisions to make.
We have finally sorted out the bridesmaids dresses as Coast had a great sale on - at one point we did think that we would never find them! I got my shoes from BHS as I found a 15% discount offer in Wedding Ideas Magazine - great! I also got lovely pearl necklaces from M&S which will go nicely with my dress.
My photographer, who happens to be my cousin, would like to do a pre-wedding shoot (the in thing) and run past some photo ideas and locations. It’s all very exciting, even though we have lots of photos after being together for years, these will be very special to us both.
The flowers are from Just Flowers http://floristsouthport.co.uk/ they were so helpful and they had a fabulous bouquet, a little over our budget but my mum and step dad are buying it for me, as a little gift which is lovely. We are getting button holes and bridesmaid bouquets, and I am thinking of just a simple leaf with one flower for them, and our mothers will both have a corsage.
We have our dates for when the banns are going to be read out, which will be lovely and have booked an organist for the church, for when I walk down the aisle and when we are signing the resister. James the groom has a little something different for the recessional music when we leave the church.
The Hen Night being planned by my bridesmaid is a limo into Liverpool, cocktail making (mixology), followed by a meal at Zizis and then we can party inLiverpool. James and his mates are planning to do go-karting, and a comedy night with a three course meal.
There are loads of things happening to look forward to and it is a really exciting time for both of us, there might even be time for another update before the big day!

Regular gamers will be familiar with the 1000 Heroz game and one player took the game a step further by using it to propose to his girlfriend by contacting the company to ask for their help. The couple are both fans of the game and so it seemed like the ideal way to pop the question. Peter is originally form the UK and now lives in Bangkok where he met his fiancee Ying while teaching English to adults. He wanted to make sure that the proposal was unique to them, and hit on the idea after realising that they played the game every day and were always competing for the fastest times. “I thought that I might be able to have a small banner in a race or some pop up text, but I didn’t know if the game developers would allow it. I posted up my idea on the members forum for RedLynx and was amazed at the response when the development team got in touch to say that they would love to help me. We had a discussion of how it would work and when it was all set I just had to persuade Ying to play the game. She kept hitting restart to try and get a perfect run, but I just wanted her to get to the end and see the banner! Luckily she finally completed the run and it took a few seconds to sink in when she saw the banner, she was in tears and asking how I had arranged it, but the important thing wass that she said yes. It was such a sweet moment and we are both so happy with RedLynx for helping us”
The company also included a follow up banner the next day letting all of the gamers know the outcome.
