Choosing their wedding rings is one of the most personal moments for a couple who are getting married. There are so many options that it can seem a daunting decision when it is something that they will wear for the rest of their married lives. It certainly pays to speak to the experts in the jewellery business to help them consider all of the options and Libby from Johnsons Jewellers offers the following insight into the world of wedding rings.
“The wedding ring is the most famous and instantly recognisable symbol of the joining of a man and woman as husband and wife. The ring is of course a circle- which has no beginning and no end, like time and this was a symbol of eternity, by the Egyptians- the original designers of wedding rings.
The wedding rings worn originally by the Egyptians would have been made from leather, bone or ivory! Today’s brides are a little more modern and mostly opt for precious metals. A very traditional wedding band would be very plain and normally yellow gold. However in today’s modern society- anything goes. Many ladies (and more and more men) like to have diamonds in their wedding ring. With some ladies choosing to wear fully diamond set rings and others just a simple single diamond in a band. Wedding rings can be made in a variety of metals, normally according to what budget the couple have to spend. 9ct and 18ct gold white or yellow gold are the most popular of choices. Platinum has also been a very fashionable option over the last few years, however with the rising costs of metals, the sister metal called Palladium (which looks the same, but generally works out to be cheaper) has gained popularity.
The best choice of wedding ring is normally what you feel most comfortable wearing. For gents in particular the wedding ring could be the only piece of jewellery they will ever own and wear. So the style and design must be comfortable to be worn every day. For Ladies it will be a ring that sits best next to their engagement ring. The only way to test this is to try lots and lots of rings on. So remember what ever design and style you choose the ring will be looked at every day- for the rest of your married life.”
Johnsons Jewellers will be exhibiting with The UK Wedding Shows at the Midlands show in January 2012 to give expert advice. Visit their website at www.johnsonsjewellers.co.uk
