It is one of the most important elements of the day and one of the most difficult to choose, but Chelsea seems to have found the perfect gown. No pictures here so we don’t spoil the surprise, but we hope to see a photo after the event.
“Choosing my bridal outfit was something I wasn’t too sure about. I knew I was never going to be the typical bride in white but I couldn’t quite decide what I wanted. A friend and I decided to have a day vintage shopping as we felt that would allow us to try on the widest variety of styles. It was a really instrumental day in shaping my ideas. I’m 5’3 and quite petite so had always thought I would go for a short gown but I surprised myself by actually really loving a few long gowns, 20’s style French silk styles. Although I was trying on dresses and loving them I hadn’t really felt as if any were ‘the one’. I started to wonder if I was a bit silly for imagining that I would find a dress like that; that maybe it’s something that only happens in the movies. Our last visit of the day was at Heavenly Vintage brides and Helena, the business owner, was so lovely. I tried on so many dresses but there was one that I slipped on that just felt…amazing. There weren’t tears but while wearing it I grinned like a moron and just couldn’t stop. I was taking the dress home with me just days later. What’s it like? You’ll have to wait and see! But our wedding feels so real now I can imagine what I’m wearing!”

With their wedding a mere five weeks away Chelsea may have her work cut out fitting in some dance lessons, but at least the wedding music is sorted out!
“Let me just start this with an admission, I am not a fan of YMCA…or the Macarena…and forget about The Birdy Song. At most weddings I’m hardly found on the dance floor and I’ve been to many a wedding where I’ve tried my hardest to steer clear of the dodgy DJ or the dubious couple singing 80’s duets. This isn’t because I don’t like to dance…I LOVE to dance but I hate wedding music. Therefore, finding good entertainment for my own wedding was so important. A few months before we were engaged we went to the wedding of a young couple who had a live rock band and although it obviously wasn’t to everyone’s taste every single person was up dancing because the atmosphere was so electric! When we got engaged I knew I needed a live band. We looked around and we’ve decided on the Indie Killers. They sound great, they provide a DJ service in between their sets and they come with glowing references. Now just have to deal with the fact the boy doesn’t dance, ha ha!”

The World’s First Facebook Ring was part of a social media experiment by award-winning Jewellery Designer, Andrew Geoghegan who specialises in designing Engagement & Wedding rings alongside spectacular Cocktail Rings.
Over 12 weeks in 2012, Andrew asked his Facebook fans to take part in a huge experiment, asking them to choose from various design process and rock choices in order to build up a completely unique Facebook Ring. Over 2,500 people took part and the ring was revealed at a huge jewellery trade fair IJL.
The result of the experiment was a quite incredible diamond ring. The overall design is beautifully simple. A diamond is held in clear view and the setting is designed to show off as many surfaces of the stone as possible. Perfectly suited as an engagement ring – flat edged wedding and eternity rings would fit perfectly alongside this creation – but it also works just as well as a stunning yet simple diamond ring. The Asscher cut shows us that Art-Deco styling has timeless appeal.
Voters looked at a number of different categories from the stone and precious metal to the setting, profile and finer details. All of the most popular elements were then combined to achieve the stunning result.

It was really important to me at the beginning of planning to get my bridal party sorted out, to have my girls on my side from the start. It was tough trying to get my bridesmaids down to 4 (a number chosen due to budget) but I did this by finding alternative roles for those who didn’t quite ‘make the cut’. One of my oldest friends Rima will now be doing a reading for us instead (she’s a confident public speaker, don’t make anyone do a reading that doesn’t want to!) and my little cousin Sophie is now being a female usher which also avoids the whole drama of having to find a bridesmaid dress suitable for both adults and an 11 year old.
For my 4 bridesmaids I now have:
Alia: We met in secondary school and bonded over trying to entertain ourselves in science. We’ve always acted like big kids and one of our favourite friendship traditions have always been sleepovers where we eat sweets until we’re sick and do ‘makeovers’ on each other. She’s always incredibly supportive to me and is engaged herself so is always available for wedding chatter.
Annie: Chris’s sister. When I started dating Chris, Annie was only 10 and we would babysit her and she has become like my little sister. We’ve spent years borrowing clothes from each other, getting told off for play fighting and having girly nights in the two of us. The fact that after our marriage she will become an official sister excites me!
Beth: my absolute besty. We met at university and bonded through our similar tastes in music, clothes and food. She really is so much fun but our friendship is strong because we’ve been able to support each other through hard times as well. I know she will be a friend for life and I’m so happy to have her by my side on my wedding day.
Vicky: We met at school through mutual friends yet years later we’re the ones that have remained in a strong friendship. Every time I visit my hometown it’s always Vicky I call first to see what the plans are for that night and we’re always planning our next little road trip together. Vicky is such a great laugh, the one who can solve all problems with wine and I just hope with her around I still remember my wedding day (heehee!).
My brother is being an usher and the boy has chosen his best man, a mutual friend of ours from secondary school. I have to say I’m a bit worried about a best mans speech that has the potential to embarrass not only Chris but me as well!

The Wedding Fairy officially launches NATIONAL WEDDING DAY across the UK for the first time ever… a chance for couples to celebrate the most sensational day of their lives all over again in aid of Cancer Research UK. Whoever said a girl only gets to wear the dress of her dreams once was lying because on NATIONAL WEDDING DAY everyone has the chance to embrace and rejoice in that magical moment of saying I do every 12 months for an incredible cause. And it doesn’t matter whether you were hitched in a church 10 years ago, are getting married in a registry office tomorrow, planning a civil partnership for later in 2012 or just got hitched on a Caribbean island! Everyone is invited to this wedding reception with a difference to celebrate those nuptials all over again.
George Watts, AKA The Wedding Fairy http://www.theweddingfairy.tv/ , has been described as an internet sensation by one of the UK’s leading wedding websites and is now recognised as a major voice on everything linked to the World of saying I do! George regularly contributes to a range of National/Online Magazines and he is a resident wedding expert on a variety of TV shows. George said “We are SO excited to be hosting National Wedding Day this year in the stunning location of Hastings Old Town during carnival season. The atmosphere will be buzzing and we hope people will join us from across the UK to donate and do that first dance all over again!’
The main focus for the day’s celebrations will be Hastings Old Town where the official launch party will be hosted by New Style Events. Being described as probably the biggest wedding reception in the World ever, all the vital elements will be covered with a twist, to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. There will be cakes, flowers, dresses much more up for grabs via the big day raffle plus couples will be able to roll up their sleeves and compete for cake in the big day bake off. There is also a chance to win one of ten pairs of tickets for The UK Wedding Shows London ExCeL exhibition in February 2013 a fantastic two day exhibition that attracts thousands of visitors each year.
Visitors will be invited to purchase a pink ribbon in support of the charity’s work and write a personal message which will then be pinned to a brides wedding dress. This visual gesture is a way of reminding everyone exactly what the event is for and hopefully by the end of the day the wedding dress will be covered in messages of hope.
The event takes place on Wednesday 1st August 2012 12pm-7pm (statistically the most popular day of the year to marry in the UK!) in Hastings Old Town, The Stade Open Space Arena (next to Jerwood gallery)

Katy and James were married on 25th May in glorious sunshine. The wedding went without a hitch and the bride looked stunning. After the church service everyone went over to the local park where a special area had been set aside for photographs to be taken. There was a retro VW camper ice cream van (www.ice-creamdub.co.uk) for guests to indulge in between photographs, with all kinds of lovely flavours and toppings to add to the fun, a great way to keep cool and a delightful backdrop for the photographs. After the photos had been taken the reception was held at a nearby golf course for a traditional sit down meal, champagne toast and speeches. Katy had told some of us in advance how nervous James was about making his speech, but he need not have worried as he did a great job and when he said how happy he was and told Katy how much he loved her there was not a dry eye in the room. After the meal guests were treated to entertainment when a fun casino (www.pierfuncasinos.co.uk) was set up and they could gamble their specially designed fun money on the roulette wheel or blackjack table, courtesy of the bride and groom. It was a delightful way to spend the afternoon and really showed how much thought Katy and James had put in to the day, thinking of their guests as well as planning a day for themselves. There were other little touches on the tables such as bubbles, cake pops and chocolate favours and it was all coordinated to the green theme that Katy and James had chosen.
We will have an update from the couple when they return from their delayed honeymoon in New York in October, and will show some more photos from the day. In the mean time everyone at The UK Wedding Shows wishes Katy and James every happiness as they start their married life – Congratulations!

The long-held tradition that women can propose to their boyfriends on a Leap Year dates back to the fifth century - and research released today shows that one in three women would consider following this custom and ask their boyfriend to marry them on 29 February, putting celebrity Lisa Maxwell in good company after popping the question this year.
Commissioned by Sandals Resorts, the Luxury Included® Caribbean hotel company, the survey showed that the 20% of women who say they are scared of being rejected need not fear as, instead of running for the hills after a proposal from their loved one, 40% of men would be more than happy to accept and two thirds would not find it embarrassing to have the tables turned in this way. Reassuringly only 5% of men would say no to a proposal because their girlfriend is not ‘The One’.
Women from the East Midlands are the most likely to propose and ladies living in Wales are the least inclined to pop the question. Men from the North East are the country’s most receptive, with almost half saying they would like their lady to do the asking. Men in the South West are the least likely to acquiesce, with 31% saying they would not like to be propositioned. Men from Northern Ireland and Greater London were the most likely to be left red faced by a Leap Year proposal, with a fifth of respondents from each region saying that they would find the gesture embarrassing.
Professor of Psychology and Relationship Expert, Geoffrey Beattie said: “This new research by Sandals Resorts shows that the Leap Year tradition of women taking the initiative in proposals of marriage is now chiming with the underlying attitudes of people in the U.K. today. More and more women (and men) seem happy with the idea that it is perfectly acceptable for women to pop the question. This seems to reflect a more egalitarian society in terms of relationships and dating, with women no longer prepared to play second fiddle, and taking the initiative whenever it is necessary. Given that marriage is a key milestone in many people’s lives it is refreshing to see that things are changing. ”
