A wedding isn’t complete without the throwing of confetti to celebrate the marriage of a couple. The confetti moment is a magical one; and the perfect confetti to use is natural petal confetti.
Have you ever wondered how natural petals are produced? Shropshire Petals, growers of natural petal confetti, show The UK Wedding Shows the scenes from the growing to the packing; you can see exactly how much goes into making your wow factor confetti moment. It’s 100% biodegradable and eco-friendly, natural petals are preferred by venues and churches… and there is no clearing up required, unlike synthetic types, as it is just like blossom fallen from a tree.
Planning
A lot of careful planning goes into producing the perfect natural petal confetti. A close eye has to be kept on the weather forecast as too much rain could wash out a whole crop and the lack of sun can affect whether or not the flowers bloom. Shropshire Petals grow a range of different petals in an array of colours. Each year, trials are done to introduce potential new colours to the confetti range. Some work, some don’t and some like a lilac petal grown a few years ago turn out a totally different colour than expected. These dried a grey colour and ended up being one of the most popular colours for vintage weddings.
Growing
The flowers are drilled in March/April and are carefully tended to and weeded before they flower in July/August. The flowers will only bloom for around 4-6 weeks, which means the window for creating perfect petals is very small.
Harvesting
Once the fields are a wash with colour from blooming flowers, they are delicately handpicked and transported to a special de-petalling shed, which is where the laborious de-petalling process starts. Each petal is pulled from its stem individually to ensure that they are not damaged to protect their colour and quality. After petals have been picked, they are then dried ready to be used as confetti.
The shed
The shed is where all of the storing, packing and sending out of orders happens. Inside the shed it is very colourful with every colour and mix displayed to make it easy to find the correct confetti when processing orders.
