The most celebrated, high fashion wedding dress designer is the go-to person for all celebrity brides, and who can blame them? Every creation from Vera Wang is pure perfection. We were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of some of her dresses at The UKWS London ExCel back in January, thanks to exhibitors David’s Bridal.
Let’s take a look at some of her most memorable pieces worn by A-Listers from around the world.
Alicia Keys
Something that most wedding gown designers have to factor in is weight loss as the celebs slim down to look their best on their wedding day, however that wasn’t the case for Alicia Keys. The R&B singer had a little one on the way, so Wang had to adjust the dress. A Grecian goddess gown was ideal for the growing baby bump and was well suited for the Mediterranean wedding back in 2010. To complete her modern goddess look, she wore an elegant headband, crystal-encrusted sandals, with a bouquet of purple calla lilies in her hands.
Kaley Cuoco
On New Year’s Eve, 2013, Kaley Cuoco wore a custom wedding dress and veil, looking absolutely dreamy in pink. As described on VeraWang.com, “the gown was a petal pink strapless tulle ball gown with a sweetheart neckline, hand gathering detailed bodice and hand appliqué Chantilly lace accents. The veil was a nude tulle veil with petal pink floating hand appliqué Chantilly lace.”
Shenae Grimes
Like Cuoco, a handful of showbiz brides have opted for the untraditional and wore a non-white ensemble for their big day. Pink has been a popular choice, but it wasn’t the color for Shenae Grimes. Wang is credited for starting the dark/black trend with her Fall 2010 collection, showing the world that brides don’t have to wear white to look and feel beautiful while walking down the aisle, which the 90210 star proved to the world on May 10, 2013. Grimes decided to venture down the gothic route and wear the ‘Josephine’ gown from the collection, a black silk georgette designed as a V-neck halter with a layered tulle skirt, finished with shadow lace flowers on the neck.
Avril Lavigne
Another celeb that opted for the black, slimming and edgy look shortly after Grimes was Avril Lavigne. Definitely an attention grabber, the color can be a dangerous choice because the wrong styling can make it look like you’re in mourning. Lucky for Lavigne, she had hers down in soft waves and wore a crystal-beaded headband. Of course, the punk pop princess couldn’t stay away from the heavy black liner, though it still worked well with her ebony Monique Lhuillier gown in her southern France castle wedding.
Kim Kardashian
Four years ago on August 20, the same wedding anniversary date as Sting and Trudie Styler, Kim Kardashian married Kris Humphries. But that day, she not only debuted one original Vera Wang creation, but three separate ones. As a perfectionist with all the money in the world to spend, she walked down the aisle in a frothy princess ball gown, entered the reception in a ruffled mermaid dress and changed halfway through into a slinky silk sheath number.
Victoria Beckham
According to Forbes, Victoria’s satin ballgown cost a six figures back 1999. And she only wore it for the ceremony! Both the becks rocked matching purple Antonio Berardi outfits for the reception.
